Why would a free hit be awarded in field hockey?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A free hit would be given if one team commits an offense under the rules and it is a disadvantage to the nonoffending team. Offenses might include a dangerous ball, hacking, obstruction of any kind, and raising the ball illegally, as well as the ball contacting a player's foot, body or the back of their stick.

Is it OK to use an indoor field hockey stick on a regular outdoor field?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It will probably be OK, but if you are a serious field hockey player, you would not use an indoor stick on the turf nor use your turf stick indoors.

It is not OK to use an indoor stick outside. When you want to shoot the ball you might break your stick because it is too thin.

It is ok cuz there isn't much difference between them.

What is the best field hockey stick for an advanced forward or winger?

User Avatar

Asked by Sporty99

Unfortunately for you, that describes pretty much anyone at a decent level; even some goalkeepers can prefer such sticks for the weight and balance they have. Visit your local store and ask to try them out - some allow "test driving" and others hold showdays of their products.

The most goals scored by one team in an NHL game was 16. The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Quebec Bulldogs 16-3 on March 3, 1920. The Canadiens and Toronto St. Patrick's combined for 21 goals on January 10, 1920, with Montreal winning 14-7. The Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks tied the record on December 11, 1985. The Oilers won 12-9.

How do you organize players in hockey?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

NHL, as of the past few decades, has expanded to 30 teams overall (6 in Canada, the rest in the US).

Each team is in a different, individual city and is an individual NHL franchise. The 30 teams are organized into two Conferences: East and West. Each Conference has 15 teams.

Within the East and West Conferences are further geographical divisions of the teams. The 15 teams in each Conference are further grouped into 5 teams per divison, with 3 divisons per Conference. (That's 30 teams overall - 15 per conference - 5 per conference division).

The Western Conference has the Central Divison, Northwest Divison, and Pacific Division; the Eastern Conference has the Southeast Division, the Northeast Divison, and the Atlantic Division.

Eastern and Western teams play each other about once a season, while Eastern teams play each other 4 or so times a season. Teams that share a Divison play each other 6 times a season.

Playoffs are determined by Conference with 8 of the 15 teams in each Conference making it. The 1, 2, and 3 positions in each Conference go to the division-leading teams for each of the 3 divisons in the Conference, while 4-8 are determined by points.

In the playoffs, Eastern and Western Conference teams don't face each other until the Stanley Cup Finals (first round: Conference Quarterfinals; 2nd round: Conference Semifinals; 3rd round: Conference Finals; 4th and final round: Stanley Cup Finals)

Why is the Olympic hockey field wet?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There "appears" to be a spray because in fact there is a spray. All games at the Beijing Olympics hockey tournament were played on the wet base artificial turf specially laid for the tournament. These turfs are covered with a small amount of water before (and somtimes redone at halftime of) each game, in order to help lessen the effect of injury on it and alow the ball to move quicker than if the turf was dry.
