Not all Amish people have to be white. This is because some other people can be adopted or converted into the Amish way of life.
The same way we do, they use water.
The same way everybody else does it. Over the knee.
No, not anyone can become Amish and live in an Amish society. The Amish are a closely knit religious and cultural community that values their traditional way of life. They typically only accept individuals who have been born into the Amish faith or who have married into it.
I live in the midst of Amish country in the Lancaster, PA area. The farm across the road from us is Amish and we talk to them almost weekly. Also had work done by Amish contractors. We find them totally non-judgemental and we respect their way of life as do most of us "English" people in this area. To tourists the Amish or Mennonites may look odd, because they dress different, but the local people don't notice.
The preferred way to drive the Amish buggy is "tickle their feet."
I'm Amish myself and my parents split up after a village feud, so during the week i live on the ranch with my mom, and on the weekends i lead a 'normal' non Amish life at my dads. i told my dad its time we gave up being people were not by following the Amish crowd, so he shaved his beard off. Well anyway its peoples choice how they act and dress but i think growing up Amish you aren't given the chance to find yourself for who you are. In a way I'm glad we moved because i realised that there is a lot more to life.
